I have experienced the leader that refused to allow his subordinates to rise to the surface in their areas of expertise while in the Army. Perhaps that is the way of the military setting. However, within my particular unit, I was able to be recognized and helped to cause some changes within. Eventually, the leader I was referring to was sent to a different place to teach others to be just like him, and his replacement was a much better leader.

I learned the coaching methodology for managers makes sense, and is a way of leading the employees toward a common goal without adversely affecting the individual's self esteem. It helps the employees to both stand out as well as form a better team-unit.
I can apply what I have learned in my personal relationships with family members and with my coworkers and students. If I should become a manager, then, of course, I would try to use what I have learned from a managerial point of view as well.
