Activity

Students are our customers, and they ought to be taught by knowledgeable instructors. In order to retain students, we have to try different teaching methods.

Creativity and new ideas, especially ones that relate to everyday life, helps the students learn and retain information better than just simply reading or listening to lectures. Especially with the new younger generation.

The game I often play with my students in class is called Four Corners. I find that they ALL struggle with the scenario/case studies questions. I put a case study up on the big screen along with the answer choices. In each of the four corners of the room, there is an A, B, C, and D posted on the wall. The students will go stand in the corner of which they think the answer is. They are allowed to discuss possibilities with their peers in order to help them figure out the correct answer. I like the t-shirt anatomy activity because this will help students remember the area of interest when its time for them to scan a certain organ 

Nonverbal forms of communication is a great idea in the clinical setting. This gets your message across to the student without alerting or alarming the patient and their family, as well as save the student from embarrassment. 

I liked the A B exercise where the goal was not to remember what people said about their vacation, but to take note of characteristics of the person talking. That is extremely relevant to healthcare patients as well as every day life.
