Activity
Personalized learning is a standard term now that simply means that the leraning needs to be a cognitive activity and an individual student need to learn and attain the course objectives through dtrategies that suit that student. It could be gamification, visual, testing, adjusting teh difficulty level and the pace of the course.

It may be a challange and the courses may have to be tweaked and syllabi revised to adapt to one/ other or both. Online environment will be heading in that direction as it helps in individual adjustments of learning and assessment. On campus learning will use these technologies to aid/ help and for tailor making.
Adaptive learning exams have already been developed where the difficulty level of an exam is tailored according to the student performance during the exam. If a student attempts a "medium difficulty" question successfully, he/ she will be given a harder question to test him for the next level of knowledge. A traditional exam is a mix of mostly medium, some hard and some difficult questions and all students have to attempt the same number of question. Suppose an exam is made of 100 questions but in an adaptive learning exam, a student does 560 hard questions correctly, we have achieved… >>>
Well; there are multiple reason and one of them is that thjey are forced to come to school. Unfortunately, it does not go far unless the teacher is really caring and has special skills to get their attention and make the point that the education is good for them in the long run for a better life. Once they get that, it is possible to involve different teaching strategies and keep them interested and graduate.

Hi Kelly
Teaching needs to be customized for individual learners. Sharing relevant stories that are academic and come with a "moral of the story" are good to share. Motivating the students to learn is as important as teaching them skill sets. Mant students lose focus during a course and need reason to continue. These are the ones that need to be kept under a constant radar.

I think active learning can work in most of the courses. Its important how is it incorporated and which tools are used to fit different learning styles. Visual, auditory Kinesthetic and other learning styles may need different activity and interactivity.

Technology is a part of modern teaching and learning but it should be a tool and not the goal as technology does not teach; instructor teaches and that should always be kept in mind. Different learners can benefit from it to variable levels but its here tto stay
I got some good pointers from the course especially in organizing the first week of the class and its relavance to retention and eventually program outcomes
Thanks; I have not done ED 106 but might do as the comments are really informative

Hi Shawna
You are right; this course went beyond the visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. It gave variant features of many other types of learners. The best part was that it provided strategies to be a more effective allied health instructor for different learning styles. The activities described are practical and "doable'. I intend to use some of those strategies while I am teaching.
