It was good to have the reminder that, while I may be nervous, I know the subject matter more than my students and that they are looking to me to be the SME. I will remind myself to slow down when speaking if nervous, and to make sure I have plenty of content to cover.

 

I like the advice on holding students' attention, and for giving several smaller exams throughout the term rather than one final.

 

Great strategies to deal with various, potentially challenging, personality types.

 

Setting the expectation of missing/late work early on and frequently to help set students up for success.

Try to use as many methods of teaching as possible to reach students who learn in a variety of ways.

 

Its important to cover basic things during the first day of class to help set expectations and allow students to feel like they will be successful.

 

Have a notepad to write down notes or follow ups for particular students.

 

Be humble and focused, practice if you are uncomfortable leading a room full of students, and know where to seek resources for personal/professional development.
