ELL students will likely to need more time to process the information on lessons, quizzes, test, and often will have difficulty comprehending the content of test items. Especially due to unfamiliar language or cultural references.
Having several strategies on hand .ie: Cognitive and Metacognitive is vital to helping ELL students in the classroom.
Six to ten years to reach grade-appropriate reading and writing proficiency in English, could only truly accomplished by supporting ELL students in all aspects. Their worries and anxiety to learn in class can be improved with support and ecouragement from their teachers and staff. I find that being humorous and striving to make the lesson at hand relateable to them helps significantly.
In my first year of teaching at the high school level, I had one student who was an in ELL. With great respect to his goal in learning as much as he could in my classroom. I had to remember his pace of remembering our subject was slower and difficult due to reading and writing in the English language in itself.

Performance Groups in the Lounge are integrated with related learning opportunities offered on these portals.
