I agree that this is very similar to HIPPA. Interesting that the student is no longer protected after death. An employee cannot access files if also a student. Any requested amendment to a record can be noted in files.
Directory information may not if the student requests it not be shared. I found it interested that directory information includes such items as DOB and address, parents names, etc. It seems this could be harmful so not sure why it is okay to be shared publicly and only withheld by request.
The student or parent has a right to access their educational record. The institution has 45 days to comply. Any information, even written notes, are part of the record.
Students should be allowed to use their "mother tongue". Language is a part of their culture. Also, language and literacy are not equal. Someone may speak multiple languages but have low literacy.
Both are important but race is a social construct rather than biologic.
Don't make assumptions and stereotype.
Take the pulse of class mid term. Have them evaluate what they have learned. Tell a story to keep them engaged.
Present a confident and positive attitude to your students. And find ways to engage them with special theme days. It is also important to recognize accomplishments and praise students to keep them motivated.
Know that students come from different situations and experiences. Be aware of different types of needs from basic to personal. What are the students' goals and aspirations and how can you help them achieve them.
Provide different learning opportunities and styles..... and practice.
