This initial course has been great!

Many of the things featured are really useful. I particularly appreciated the short Harvard videos. They are compelling and you can tell that the instructors there have a lot of experience.

I enjoyed being taught the following things:

1. It is important to be early as it has a deep psychological effect on students. If you get there early, learning can begin much more easily.

2. It is important to ask the students not what they learned by reading the book the night before, but to engage them on what occurs… >>>

When a class is large enough, it is possible to see a couple of students hiding in the back and stealthily using their phones beneath their desk. My solution to this problem is to stop the lecture and just look at them. After a few seconds, the students who are paying attention start to laugh nervously. As the student with the phone realizes he or she has become the center of attention, they tend to modify their behavior. Students will modify their behavior more effectively when their own peers signal that what they are doing is inappropriate.
