I often times find myself eager to get through the material because of time constraints. Not thinking about how the students are taking it all in. This section will help me change things up a bit and has given me some new ideas, and I will have to revisit some of my old tactics.
I start the day by talking to the students trying to get to know a little about them. I like to find out what city they are from if they have High School Auto Shop Expierience and what the expect to do with the expierience they will get from me.

I think retention begins with the first day of class. Just letting them know what the days are going to be filled with, some of the things they will learn, keeps them coming back day after day.

I have learned to enjoy speaking to the student's and learning things about them. Some times the student's may share information that I wished would have stayed a secret to me.
I think this topic will help me in the future with my classroom skills. Before I started working here, I had the mind set of, conform or get out, I guess that's not the PC way.

I treat every person I come into contact with, with respect. Just saying hello, or holding the door for another person seems to go along way.
I treat my students in the same way I treat my own kids. I do not do anything differant, I think before I speak and treat each situation as it comes about.

From reading this material, I got from it that we as Teachers/Instructors should be treating our students as humans. When I walk through the Campus, I greet everyone, even if I do not know them. So, business as usual for me.
