In admissions, if a potential student suggests a disability, we must direct them to disability services. We do not get into any detail about potential acomedations.

I found it interesting that the gainful employee regulations have been overturned and expire July 1 2020. It will be interesting to see if schools continue to update this information or not.

Reply to Lisa Creach's post: I found it interesting that the campus is not required to contact the police, it is up to the victim.

Reply to Robin Wiebe's post:This is a good point. It is still vital to have a title IV coordinator for online programs as they may be subject just as much by verbal harassment, unwanted texts, emails, etc.

This is a tough situation for online classrooms. If a student doesnt disclose transgender status, or if they are transitioning, another peer or instructor may acknowledge them in a way that could offend them and they could potentially complain. I had this situation at another school. But I advised the student the reality, if they dont klnow you cant take affense to certain pronouns. people do not mean harm they are just trying to communicate with you.

This module covered a lot of information. I learned that there are other government programs that superceed the FERPA Act and the government can access information without students consent in certain instances.

One thing I learned in this module is that students have the right to add a note to their permanent file if they feel the need to dis[pute a certain item, like attendance or a grade recieved. Where this may not change the schoolsdecision, it gives the student a chance to defend the action and is to e released with all permanent file release requests.

This module taught me more detailed information of when a students records can be accessed for legal purposes, and the proceedures needed to obtain students records.

As an admissions representative, FERPA is very important to my role. It is imparative that I follow the guidelines when a family member calls in asking about the students enrollment, financial aid, or any other protecte dinformation without having the proper written documentation on file to release said information.
