I rarely use Power Point while lecturing.
I will use it as a review tool and they are posted on a dropbox for the student to review at their convenience.
I know of one instructor that uses it exclusively. Students get bored and when I have subbed for that instructor I have used his PPT but will enhance it with worksheets as classroom activities and the students get so much more out of it.
Thank God for YouTube! I use it almost everyday in some classes to demonstrate surgical procedures that can not be recreated in the lab.
I, too, never curve a test or quiz. Not because I fell it is unnecessary but because I and the students I teach work in a very intense medical environment. There is no room for mistakes and patients will not give them a second chance.
My school gives an outline of the weight of different components of their final grade. We have the ability to adjust that weight as long as the end result is equal. So if the assessment portion (exams) is worth 30% of their final grade then I will pull say 10% out for their final exam.… >>>
I teach surgical technology. Although our text the student a wealth of information critical thinking has to be mastered once the student is in the OR environment. Every patient is not a textbook situation and the student has to solve the problem of care for that patient at that moment. Critical thinking skills and of course common sense has to kick in. As they become seniors in the program of study I am constantly saying that they must pull in all the other things they have been taught ( A&P, Med term, Pharm) to solve the problem at hand (care for… >>>
