I have learned that all LMSs are not accessible.  This is concerning, and I will be looking at the degree of accessibility of our institution's checklist.  I am also going to make a checklist from what we reviewed so that I can keep in mind what I need to be aware of long-term to be sure what I am presenting is accessible.

I was surprised to find that LMSs are not on their face all accessible. It seems blatantly illegal to construct those, but yet, it still is the case.  I would think that lawsuits would have been brought if those same platforms lead to an OCR investigation that included fines.  Seems like the standard has to be acceptability since that is what is required by the law.

I found it interesting that the recommendation was for the instructor to be proactive. Empowering the instructor in this way seems a very effective approach to be sure that legal standards are met on an individual basis.

I have learned to think about things more clearly from the perspective of those with disabilities.  For instance, in the PowerPoints, we as instructors should not be including things that flash due to the risk that they could cause seizures. It is also important that long-term projects might best be divided into smaller components and that depression is common.  We truly need to think about the barriers these individuals face.

I am in the process of using the information reviewed in this course to design my first course.  I am working on my analysis and the design document to ensure that I truly follow the ADDIE model to be successful in achieving my objectives.
