Working with adult learners in a career school has presented a whole new set of challenges for me. The knowledge and skills that I learned from "Three Components of Student Management" have been a tremendous resource working with adult learners. The six categories of students identified in Unprepared Students, Ready to Quit Students, etc. presented information that I have really needed to understand the students and how to set them up for successful learning opportunities.
After forty years as a professional educator, it was refreshing to renew skills and validate practices that I have used in a variety of instructional settings. All of my teaching experiences have been with the traditional public school students. Now that I am an instructor of non-traditional, adult learners, I have learned to modify my instructional preparation, content/skill delivery and student engagement practices.
