Rubrics have made the grading process easier but students clearly understanding why they received a grade is the true victory. I provide rubrics prior to an assignment deadline so students clearly see what is expected and how to achieve it.

I am an older student(Gen-X)who attends college with Gen-Y and has baby boomers for Professors. This combination of individuals also exists in the classes I teach. It is true that understanding the way each group communicates in general is a great help. Instructors have to get them to see how much they can learn from one another versus what each group is lacking.

When clear expectations and consequences for not meeting expectations are spelled out in the syllabus, students succeed better. It is also crucial the instructor rules by example, when the teacher follows the rules enforcing the rules is easier.
Students are not very forgiving when equipment or technology tools do not work. They are even more aggravated when a tool takes up more time than it saves. Another issue is technology that is not understood by a majority of the class. These are issues that must be worked out quickly or you may lose the focus of your students.

Online instruction has been a learning curve for me. I am now at the point where I am enjoying it because of all of the preparation and revision up to this point. When we started I wondered if we would make it but the courses and modules in MaxKnowledge have really shed some light on the process and how to navigate successfully.
We have all been there with the class who has given the course a sad face. I bite the bullet and take the sound criticism and work to improve the course. When too many critiques come back with the same general comments from several classes, it's time to look at the course.

Once I started providing more detailed feedback, which takes more time, I noticed students started to improve more rapidly. I did not take as long for them to understanding key concepts of the course.
In the past when technology was used to provide a lesson but no follow up of the online material was provided, students did not "get" it. We have to reinforce all.

Once our staff developed uniformity students seemed to be less confused about their objectives and how to complete assignments. They are also less confused about expectations.

I learned the hard way to not change a course based on a group of evaluations. It was my first year teaching and I did not understand the process of reviewing over a certain period what should and should not be changed. I had to learn about different learners and how they would assess a course. Finally, I learned you don't change everything if one thing is at issue.
