I found the websites and resources to be helpful along with the disability considerations assessment.

I am shocked by the number of U.S. veterans with a service-connected disability is estimated at 3.6 million. It is interesting to me that the data shows individuals with a disability are more likely to work in production, transportation and material moving occupations and less likely to work in management, professional and related occupations, when compared to their nondisabled counterparts. I will be more conscious of the physical barriers that individuals may face:

  • Programmatic Barriers - A lack of access to programs and services due to organizational policies and procedures that do not take disability-related issues into account.
  • Legislative Barriers>>>

I intend to be more conscious about the techniques provided when working with or in the presence of a person with a speech impairment or physical disability. Also, I found it interesting how a brain injury is classified. It is interesting to me that Alzheimers and Parkinson's are not considered traumatic or acquired brain injury.

Student accommodations are provided to create equal access rather than help a student succeed. I want all students to succeed so this concept will change my thought process. Also, another example given that surprised me what providing a tutor for someone with a disability should not impact their ability to learn concepts. I have practiced providing support for students with disabilities, but need to rethink about providing equal access.
