Like most instructors, I use tests, quizzes, classwork/homework assignments, demonstrations, and class discussions as a means of evaluation for my students. One example of my favorite and most rewarding evaluation is the main project I assign in my computer class. I teach them Microsoft Office 2010 throughout the quarter; mainly Word & PowerPoint 2010. For their project, I have them create a 12 slide PowerPoint presentation on any topic they would like. I find that if the topic is something they choose and are comfortable talking about, especially in front of the class, they do very well and are really… >>>

I can definitely see myself improving each time I step in front of a class. Obviously the first day makes every instructor a little bit anxious, but as I continue to gain experience I know that this will become easier and easier. I have already taken some good ideas from the training and my fellow instructors that I will incorporate into my classroom moving forward.

I am a new instructor and have only taught for 2 quarters so far (6 months). I learn something new at the beginning of every quarter regarding everything from my preparation to my student's overall impression of the class. I have found that the rules and expectations for the class should be explained thoroughly to the students on the first day as it sets the overall tone for the class. It's important that we give our students the tools to succeed in their future endeavors, but also to help them understand that they are in control of their future including how well they represent themselves in the workplace before and after meeting with a potential employer. Although many of my students understood that we only help them gain the tools and knowledge to find a position in their field, there are still a select few that expect the career placement to be done for them. As an educator, I feel like it's my duty to motivate my students to take… >>>

I teach Career Development and was completely shocked when I asked my students to bring me a copy of their current resume. From that point, it was apparent to me that resume writing had never been explained in depth for most of my students. I spent several class periods on effective resume writing and interview questions, which certainly helped them develop a very good resume that they can continue to add pertinent information to as they progress in their education, work experience, and overall skill set. Many of my students expected to be placed into a career upon the completion… >>>
