I used to think I knew what people skills were and that I had them. I have come to find through this piece, that I had a wrong definition and that the older I get, the less skills I have. I have almost become antisocial.
One of the mistakes that I made when I was just starting out was trying to be funny before I had the student's respect. Then they just thought of me a comic relief and wouldn't take me seriously.

I admit that I have a hard time dealing with angry students. I often match anger with anger and I know that's not good.
I try to ask CSS to be my assistant and help guide that day's class.

I always try to incorporate real world scenarios in my everyday lectures. However, I want to remain fresh on topics, so I volunteer or stage' a couple times a month.
I often share with my classes that I struggled with reading comprehension for a LONG time until I confessed and sought help. It really helps my students, especially the older ones, to drop their guard and ask for help or confess an issue that they may have.
I really enjoy a diverse range of ages in a classroom. I feel like the older generations can bring real world experience and a sort of wisdom, while the younger crowd can bring energy and a new way to look at some things...
It seems as though every single adult education setting that I have been in, group projects are prevalent. Sometimes I just really want to work on my own and get it done. Does there really need to be THAT many group projects...
I enjoyed the theater all the way back since childhood. I was always a trainer at work. If you put the two together, you get a teacher. I try and bring entertainment to the classroom witrhout disguising the subject matter.

One of my biggest problems is identifying an issue as a high priority, but later finding out is is much lower. Do you all have any suggestions how to surely identify the MOST important things first?
