About me

Hi everyone! My name is Mardi Gilroy; I've been an RN since '89, I love nursing. I have my MSN in nsg education. I currently teach medical assistant students. I have taught RN/LPN students in the past.

I feel strongly connected to the student-centered learning model. I have always felt that the reason my diploma RN school was/is so sucessful was they were doing this style of teaching way before it was en vogue. They realized that the adult-learner came with lived experience and got rid of extraneous busy work.

On a personal note. I'm originally from CT living in SC (and love it). I have 3 children ages 28, 18, and 11. I have 5 cats. I enjoy reading and I'm a huge NY Giants football fan.

Later, that same day I saw her as she was about to enter the restroom; I asked her if she needed my help getting the door; she said she appreciated it. I spoke w/her afterwards explaining growing up… >>>

ED310 was a fantastic learning tool. Although I have used several of the suggested approaches in my teaching of Med. Term; I now have a much better understanding and appreciation as to why these strategies work. I am planning on utilizing several of the suggested games in my next course. I can see how these games can be applied to other courses as well. I only wish I had taken this course sooner.

I find when I teach Medical Term. it is best to begin with giving positive reinforcement. Many of my adult-learners know many different "medical" terms but they are unaware of this knowledge. I start off after reviewing the syllabus on the first day with a list of commonly used terms for discussion such as "cardi/o"; "hemi", "trans" and give everyday terms that use these terms. This way my students feel that they are not just learning terms that they need for a class. It's a great conversation starter; and often times it leads to finding more common words that have… >>>

Yes, I did. I thought it was only me. But then again I had several interruptions while doing this.
