My students love Kahoots. They say it helps them learn and retain.  However, I do not use them in class; if offer them as a resource for Self-Study.

It is true that Covid was responsible for the surge in onlin learning, but now I think people are realizing that it is a more flexible method that can reach a wider population. Also, it saves a lot of gas and thus helps the envioroment.

Including some orientation course in Time Management, etc. could help students learn how to better navigate the challenges  of online learning.  I think we often assume that students have those basic skills, but often they do not know how to transition from in person to online learning.  Giving some instruction could avoid feelings of inadequacy in coping with the challenges.

The Working Alliance allows students to develop trust that the instructor is really interested in their progress and is there to help them. Feeling connected will encourage retention.

Students who may be too shy to speak up about difficulties can be enoouraged by the faculty to bring up issues.  Once the rapport with faculty is established in this way, we can discover how to respond to studetnts' needs.
