Some agencies may be excluded from FERPA requirements, such as the Department of Defense.

Once deceased, a student's records are not subject to FERPA.

Any release of information completed for audit purposes must be noted in the record.

FERPA does not have a specific fine for violation; this is interesting as records should be maintained with the student's privacy as a priority.

Empathy, enthusiasm, and clarity are all critical for the instructor to convey the message.

Reconnecting students with their commitment to the course or to learning is best done by having them self evaluate about mid-way through.

Classes should be engaging and exciting for students; variety keeps adult learners engaged.

Adult learners have a different perspective; the class/topic needs to feel important and useful.  It's important to engage with them and hear where they are coming from.

There are multiple ways to learn; it's important to teach in varied ways, using different methods to engage all types of learners.

I need to make certain to meet my students and give them a bit of background about me so we can get started on the right foot.
