Since we only remember a small % of what is being told to us in lecture type settings, hands on and varied teaching strategies are important for each type of learner to succeed. 

Students should leave the first class meeting with a sense of what to expect from the instructor and what the instructor expects from them for the course. 

Be prepared, Use student names to personalize the class. Make a list of importatnt points, so as not to miss them when instructing.
