About me

Career Management Director at a community college in East Liverpool, OH since 2013 and a Global Career Development Facilitator. Provide students with professional skills and workforce ethics upon completion of their program. Responsible for building career management and job seeking skills with students, networking and building relationships in the community, planning events, utilizing social media and new technology and handling alumni relations. 

Instruct a Career Preparation course and assist students with resume building, mock interviews, personal branding, networking, and job searhing skills.

Other than: Open Houses and Financial Aid Nights how can campuses create foot traffic to their campus? What are some ideas for Admission Representatitves? 

This is my second year as a High School Admission Rep., with millennials; I have discovered its best to send an introduction text before a phone call. My response rate has increased drastically. High School students are more comfortable with other forms of communication, such as: text, Facebook messenger, email, etc.

Is there such a thing as "too late" when helping graduates find their career? In the past few months, I have been trying to build a professional relationship with a Business student (now graduate) who is very shy. This student never spoke in class or participated in group activities. I tried speaking with past instructors on the student's previous performances in class. Same thing but the student was never mentioned in any meetings or brought to the attention on the Academic Dean or myself. The student graduated in December with their Business degree.

Many students are unaware of the numerous opportunities in their county and do not understand the importance of networking. In my Career Prep course, I start out asking students "What is networking?" many times I only receive blank stares in reply. In the course, we practice Elevator Pitches, using career portfolios, and do a "mock" networking activity to help students express themselves to potential employers.

Over the years, one of the many subjects that is constantly being repeated is SOFT SKILLS. Employers are always talking about soft skills and stating that is the reason for turn over in most cases.
