Draw Back to Online Teaching

Justin: I know the feeling. I teach on campus and many of my students do not read the material either and still expect to pass the course. I too would like to know how to get students to realize the importance of reading assignments prior to going over it in class so they can come prepared with questions about things they did nto understand and be able to add relevant discussion to the class. It really enhances participation and engagement.

Using application as a retention tool.

I often share my work experiences with the class so they can see the relevance of what we are learning. I try to learn what interests the students about their particular careeer choice and incorporate it in the lesson.

The information in this module was very helpful. I had not been provided this type of information before. Knowing the cause of the stressors and how they can effect a students motivation will allow me to be more supportive. It would also be useful to have a list of resources for students such as a peer-to-peer group for students with similar issues to talk about them, support each other and help each other to develop solutions.

It is important to remember what keeps you motivated and what obstacles you have overcome or try to put yourself in the student's situation. They need to be encouraged to work through the issues and not allowed to use them as excuses to give up.

I have just started RT101 and realized that it would be beneficial to have a discussion group forum during the course and not reserved for comments after completion. I think the interaction would create more engaging opportunities for participants. The sames rules for retention could be applied to faculty who are seeking continuing ed credits.

I appreciated this module. It allowed me to make the connection between training, instruction and learning and to realize it is a combination of each instructor's personality, style and means of delivering content and ensuring that the methods enhance the learning process. I am an avid supporter of lifelong learning and know that enthusiasm is a key element in keeping students engaged.
