I have enjoyed this class on retention. I think what really got my attention is the attention-retention. I have noticed that my students thrive off of knowing that they are part of the teacher's work life. I always try to find one thing personal I can remember about each student. I try to remember to address each student by name and give each student an opportunity to have some 1:1 communication time with me. I try to find out what their visions are so I can encourage them when times are difficult. This must be working because most of my… >>>
I really believe that all these areas must be met to assist a student the way instructors need to. (1) Always #1 be an example for the student to follow. That includes dressing, attitude and gestures. (2) I like to share career life experiences with my students. I find that it opens up a means of communications. They will come to me with all kinds of issues. I try to assist or refer them to someone who can help them. (3) I can't figure out rather I have succeeded without monitoring. My first awareness that something is not right comes… >>>
I really believe that retention is the responsibility of the entire staff including maintainance and house keeping. It is important for instructors to bond with the students and for the students to trust the instructors. This course did help me by exposing me to different methods and stratedgies to help my students stay the course.
It is very important that the instructors be in one accord and work together to identify problem learns and assist students with remediation when necessary.
I am committed to do whats necessary to reach our student population and to have an open mind when dealing… >>>
Although an school may do everything possible to assist a sudent in getting a job, its very important that the student understand that the school does not control everything. The student is responsible for passing any required exams, making a good impression on the job recruitor, etc. I always like to remind students from day one that the school may be able to get them an job interview but they have to sell themselves. From day one I start assisting the student to work on the soft skills to combine with the trade skills they are learning. I also remind… >>>
I enjoyed Ed 102. I learned a lot about movitating students. I've already implemented some new techniques into my class. (1) Question my self about how I would feel if I were in the same situation. I found it does help with verbal cues. (2) Non verbal cues such as just showing enthustiasm when listening to a student response and making sure that the student has my fulless attention. (3) Finding out why the student and how the student plans to use the knowledge received from the class. One technique I had implemented in my classes previously is engrading. This program… >>>
I completed ED 105 a while ago. I really enjoyed taking that cours. I also no longer give extra credit or bonus points. I am doing better at giving them an outline of the course and the course assignments and due dates. Overall I feel my classes are running better.
I have you learned to use different techniques to get important points across to students. I have begun the process of making my own powerpoints instead of always using the ones that go with the textbook. I utilize more student centered activities and group activities in the class room.
Application comes with my instructor notes where I make sure to include work experiences and having students share their life experiences. I am working on my listening skills and asking for feedback to make sure I understood what the student was trying to say.
My support comes from other faculty members… >>>
