How do you handle a student who is not interested in participating in a classroom activity? Do you give an alternate written activity?

I enjoy having students teach topics that relate to chapter information. The delivery from another source other than the instructor can be just what is needed for a dynamic lecture.
It can be challenging to add the variety of learning styles into the classroom on a weekly basis. I would love some ideas for those that need notes, written words or other visual clues.
I played musical chairs with adult students on the first day. I was pleased at how the nervous energy turned into laughter within minutes of playing. All the "losers" of musical chairs had to introduce themselves and read out a rule/code of conduct for the class. It was fun, I learned names and it broke the first day jitters.
I do not hand out lecture notes to students but I do give them study guides and handouts. What is appropriate for students to receive in adult learning classrooms?

An aspect of training that has helped in my personal journey is learning what other faculty members do for my school. Just like Sara's comment above, knowing the names and jobs of those not in my department  has been very helpful and empowering. Everyone has a role and part to play at my job and the more I understand other faculty members and their job, the more I understand where I fit in the big picture. I have also invited other faculty members to guest speak in my class, and this aids in my understanding, as well as the student's understanding of the faculty.… >>>

Why are faculty members able to practice in their licensed or certified field and hold a position as a faculty member? I agree that being licensed or certified is important to teach. I disagree that an instructor would be allowed to also practice in their field due to compensation from a potential student.I believe ethical boundaries could be crossed between a student and teacher,
