It's very important to help students to create a vison because this can keep them motivated which is why it's important to know about their background, you can use that as a reminder every time they feel like giving up.

Students need to be shown that they are being cared for which is why follow up is very important. Even if they miss class once call them get to know why they didn't attend. Also, it's very important to identify those at risk of dropping out, follow up on them, you can even talk to their admission rep, get to know their background it helps in reminding them why they enrolled in the first place.

When discussing about convictions it is very important to own it, honest is very essential. 

Honest is very important when applying for a job and there are also laws that protects ex convicts. Having a criminal record is not a dead end, with proper guidance an ex convict can secure a good career.

Creating a vision board is very important because it encourages students to reflect and review where they see themselves in the future. Also, it forces the students to take an active role in their future while creating an opening for discussion.

With a higher incarceration rate in the US and with high possibility of having students who have been in the hands of the law, institutions have to offer support and ensure that they have the fair chance on job opportunities after graduation. Another thing is The looking glass theory, people tend to be hard on themselves because of how they think others view them. Giving an example of those who have been formerly incarcerated they can have low self esteem thinking that people might be viewing them as untrustworthy or those  looking for an easy way out.
