All students are individuals and have different learning styles. In order to promote effective learning, instructors should recognize their student's individuality and tailor each student's lessons to their needs. 

Students will come to instructors for advise and value their input. As advisors, we must consider different perspectives before giving recommendations. A good approach to this would be exploring life goals, career goals, and then looking into educational choices such as what program/course to join. 

Active listening is a vital skill that should utilized as part of being customer-oriented instructors. While students speak, instructors should show interest by giving them your undivided attention, verify what the student said, and ask questions. 

The key takeaways I got from this lesson is that adult learners bring unique approaches for their learning. Adult learners have previous experiences that they can share in the learning environment and requires a high degree of influence in the classroom. While all students have their own challenges, adult learners also have unique set of challenges in an academic setting. Challenges such as being responsible of a family or needing to earn an income while trying to learn can impact retention.
