I myself had a similar situation some time ago while working in admissions. It's okay to give factual information regarding another school however, it becomes non-compliant when you slander other institutions and discourage students against going to other schools. I agree with you, it's highly advisable and a much safer approcah for students to do their own research and obtain as much information as possible while researching other schools, this way they can make their own informed decisions as it relates to which school would be the best fit for them.
