I learned about motivating the student by getting to know them and what motivates them. Also what to do in instances where you don't have all the answers!
I like the idea of refocus and midterm student evaluation. If the students get low grades, it's always good to look at yourself and the course and see what can be done differently.
Being enthusiastic about the subject, will motivate the students, and make them feel excited too. Even making a joke or telling a funny story will make them feel more at ease.
I learned how students of different ages are motivated and learn differently. As a student at an older age myself, I see how I changed as a student from the time I was in my 20's to as a student in my 50's. Very interesting.
Students learn in various ways, visual, hearing, reading etc. I will base my instruction on giving them various ways to learn it. Prepare the day before, have a plan and practice.
I am definitely bad about learning names. I like the idea of taking the students picture and having them write their name on it and keeping it in a file.
Have a good course outline, set goals as to what you want to accomplish during the class. On the first day of class, use check lists and keep a notebook handy.
Teachers are leaders, they determine how the course of the day will go by preparation and being ready for change. Being from a military background, I had to do this every day. Sometimes things won't go as planned, but its important to move on from it.
