Google has announced that on April 21st it will start using a site’s mobile friendliness as a ranking signal. In a nutshell this means that sites optimized for use on a mobile device will rank higher than their mobile-unfriendly counterparts.
How will Google determine if your site is mobile friendly? By determining whether your site:
- Avoids uncommon software like Flash
- Uses test that’s readable without having to zoom into it
- Sizes content so that users don’t have to scroll horizontally
- Places links far enough apart so that they’re easy to tap
