Comment on Carly Straight's post: I totally agree Carly that it's important to assess what students think about the assessing method or process. Students need to be a part of creating the best method of evaluating their knowledge of any education provided.
I believe that both traditional and authentic assessments are very important. The traditional assessment is great in the classroom, and the authentic may work best in nursing education areas such as simulation and clinical sites. When the student is able to link theory to practice, and demonstrate appropriate skills in the clinical or simulation environment, that student has achieved educational goals.
Comment on Barbara Islas's post: Wow Barb, you really summed up the assessment process well. It was good to read your take on what we have learned so far in this module. Thanks for your post
I do like some of the suggestions that were made by the presenters how to deal with stress on a daily basis, and I plan to implement some of the ideas. I need to return to my daily journal writing, and jot down what I am thankful for each day.
It's very important to set goals, and not just work goals but personal ones as well. The goals provide a sort of life map. This can help to avoid work overload, and help to provide life balance.
The Classroom Assessment Technique (CAT) is a new concept to me, but which makes a lot of sense. I have loosely used it in the past, without knowing the terminology of which it is described. I also believe it is in the best interest of the students and the faculty to build in CAT in the curriculum, which would be beneficial for the students to have minute assessments if they are understanding the material. This is also beneficial for the faculty to evaluate if the material presented is appropriate to the learning level of the students.
Thanks
Students will look forward to attend a class that caters to their learning style. Each student will be able to grasp the material more effectively if their learning needs are met.
