I think that students should really take the time to educate themselves what tools are available to them. I always compare online technology to cell phones. Every time you get a new model you have to learn the new functions. I equate this to whatever online tools are used on the platform that is being used. We are still pretty new to online technology in our school and it is evolving rapidly so we are all learning the new tools available. I find it quite challenging because we have changed up quite a bit.

Commitment and discipline are key to being successful online learners as well.

Time management is the issue I run into all of the time with students. They don't allow themselves enough time to properly complete the material. Our classes used to be 6 hours before our online model launched and now they just come to campus to test and perform hands on lab tasks after reviewing the online content. I tell my students to carve out the same amount of time as if they were on campus like before. You have 3 hours of online work and 3 hours of campus work. I also teach in a technical school and I find that when using groups of no more than three students it can become a better learning environment. I also allows me to make evaluations during the learning process. I find it is easier for a student to ask for help and break barriers they may have with their teacher making it easier to ask for help.
