About me

Activity

Managing a classroom of students with ages ranging from 18 to 40 coming from rural and inner city environments can be very challenging. Tests my soft skills daily.

I feel that admitting to students that you made a mistake shows that you are human. Students respect you more than if they feel that you are being truthful. If they catch you in a mistake, it shows that they have learned something and depending on how you address the error is important. Being able to laugh at your own mistakes is good in the classroom, but not if it is too often.

I can't agree with you more about standing and moving around the room. The more energy you project, the more you will connect with your audience.

Discussion Comment
A student's perception of the class is developed as he/she walks into the room. If pass around parts or hand out sheets are already laid out and the instructor does not have to fumble to get set up in a panic mode, the students will generally not be distracted as easily. This will allow the class to flow and the objectives can be met much easier. You don't need a power point or overhead projector to have a class lesson. Just a bunch of parts and being comfortable with the course material can be a good change in the classroom.
