I agree totally that they have to be adjustable. But it gives me a checklist to make sure I don't forget something and never transfer it to the next lesson.

Trying to be a friend with the students

I see new faculty who want to be a friend of the students. We have had to make a rule that faculty cannot be a Facebook friend with any student. Being involved in social media with a student adds a completely different dimension to the student/faculty relationship. The faculty learn things about the student they should not know and the student learns things about the faculty they should not know. Being a friend of the student in any way is a mistake.

Daily Lesson Plans

I agree totally. If you do not have a lesson plan it is very easy to forget to include important items. The lesson plan gives you a check off list to use at the end of the class to make sure everything is completed.

Intructor/motivator

Enthusiasm is critical. I once interviewed a prospective faculty member who said " I want to teach because I hate clinical dental hygiene". Needless to say - I may have passed up an excellent faculty member but I did not hire that person because I believe you must love doing what you are teaching.

NOT INTO BLOGGING OR TWEETING

I understand your reluctance to be involved in blogging or tweeting. However, I believe it is important that we stay current with the technology that is being utilized by our students. We achieve a certain amount of credibility in the students' view of us that says we are not "out dated" if we are able to use current technology.

I agree with Timothy. I was not really impressed with the harvar Business School highlights. Didn't learn anything from those segments.

I also love CATS. I have used many of the assessment techniques and find them very successful. I believe we need much more emphasis on formative evaluation.

Daily Lesson Plans

I believe the daily lesson plan is critical. Even if all that you have planned is not accomplished, you know to move that segment to the next class. The lesson plan helps to include a variety of learning experiences rather than just lecturing for the entire class period.
