The Pygmalion Effect can be very useful in that you must expect good things from your students and consistently state this through out the course. It is true that words do have meanings.

One of the best methods of invoking two way communication is to ask a question and try and invoke an answer from students. Many times this will provoke more questions and interaction.

I have found that dealing with a student who has a learning disability, you must take extra time with them. Depending upon their disability that could be writing every detail of instruction on the board or going over a problem many times.

I like to get students talking about their past experiences as it might relate to their field of study. This will help peak interest and maintain motivation.

When forming student learning groups the instructor has to be careful that he or she does not over load the group with the better students. while seeking diversity one must be aware that everyone has to participate.

I always keep moving about the class room, because it helps by keeping the students engaged in the lesson. They feel as thou they are involved in the days activities.

After week three of the course, I give each student a grade sheet. This lets them track their own progress.

I find that you have to be careful about the amount of work that you assign at one time. Many students have difficulty processing to much information at once so it works best to issue a little at a time.
