About me

Hi Everyone! My main focus is nursing and nursing education. I am a Registered Nurse with a Master degreeĀ in Nursing with emphasis on Education. I enjoy teaching in the vocational nursing program.

Activity

When I have a student who asks many questions, I would acknowlege the student's input for first class. However, students who waste class time for personal questions, I would set class rules for the students to write down any question during the lecture time and hold off all questions until the end of the class.  Additionally, the students can see me after class or e-mail me questions.

The instructional benefits of knowing the learning styles of your students will alllow the instructor to modify and adjust the teaching style to enhance the learning process. As an effective instructor, the importance of assessment of the students learning styles is always ongoing.

I agree with using student self-assessment tool as a learning tool. It is a great tool to assess students learning styles and points out their learning deficiencies. It allows both the student and the instructor to find instructional support to aidand improve in the learning process.

The learning environment needs to be one where students are comfortableand safe.  Having a comfortable and safe environment for learning will allow students to be more active participants and open to discussons related to the instructional materials.

Discussion Comment

It is critical as instructors to embrace the diversity of the student population. Our students have different racial and cultural backgrounds, generational gap differences, and learning style differences. Therefore, we must adjust our teaching strategies to meet the changing needs of our students.

As a mentor to a new instructor who has never taught before, the first three things I would share about questioning effectively in the classroom would be :
1. Ask them open ended questions allows for critical thinking.
2. Ask questions to gather their responses and comprehension of the content materials.
3. Use best teaching practices such as reinforcement and praise to encourage positive student input.
