The most important part I learned is the rapport we as instructors must create with our students. It is important that the student sees us as someone who they trust, who they can talk to.

The instructor must make the class not only informative, but also fun. I usually start the class with some fun piece of news, something that can relate to the class for that day. The student must understand that you are not only about the lesson, but you care about them as persons.

It is important to know the student's intrinsic motivations as well as the extrinsic motivations to be able to help them achieve their goals of attaining an education. It is very important for the instructor to be able to find opportunities to encourage students at all times in order to keep them on point with their education.
