I can see many ways to utilize blogging in all of our Gen Ed courses. I am excited to have learned more about them.

I had not realized this was being used and I can see all of the benefits of implementing this in the online classrooms.

It is important to create a generic rubric that adheres to all and that meets compliance issues.

Social media is a powerful tool for both students and instructors if the guidelines are clear and concise. It is important to go over these rules so that it doesn't become a social hangout.

Just as there are students that present disruptive behavior in an in-person classroom, you will also have students that will present disruptive behaviors in the online learning environment. It is important to know your school's policies and procedures for handling these students to ensure the disruption stays at a minimum.

Be sure to utilize asynchronous discussions. Keep students engaged by providing feedback and summaries of their responses. At the same time, don't make the majority of the comments come from you but rather allow students to continue the conversations.

There are many ways to project your presence. Explaining your academic achievements and accomplishments provides security in that they will be learning from someone who has extensive experience. It is equally as important to show your personal side so that students feel encouraged to approach you when they need you.

Even though the delivery of the content is online, learners want to feel supported and engaged in their learning. Instructors have the responsibility to help learners feel as if they are a part of a "regular" classroom.
