This was a truly unique term as I taught the same three classes to two very different groups. The first group was plagued by tardiness, absenteeism, late assignments, and several resulting failures; the other class was very engaged, timely, and for the most part present and accounted for. Despite the differences in the personalities of the two classes, I can see how the things I learned in ED 112 can make me a better instructor. Now my task is to implement these techniques and see if the results can be improved.
Some time ago I felt that I could be more effective if I offered the students a brief questionaire pertaining to their work experience, reasons for choosing our school, and hopes and aspirations after graduation. Now I'm going to integrate an assessment of their learning preferences, beginning with those offered in the "Learning Preference Module". Have you used such an assessment, and how has this benefited you and your learners?
Thank you Dr. Meers, I have two classes of students who are at the same point in a course. It will be interesting to see the results of having the students revisit their recent accomplishments.
Do you feel that it can never be too later in the course to empower the learner by having them assess the new skill sets and knowledge gained? After module 3 in ED 102, I fully intend to shake it up a bit and have the students do this. I feel that it will give them a tremendous edge in their confidence going forward to finals and certification.

Concerning retention- this evening I was confronted by a student who I had previously called due to a couple of absences in a class.  He had discussed this with the primary instructor via e-mail, but was very appreciative of the call because it reinforced a feeling of confidence, knowing that I cared enough to call him on the phone.
