Real World Experiences
Whenever I speak about a new subject I always tell the about an experience I had out in the real world
Hi Cara:
I agree and believe there may be some educational principle out there that confirms the reliability of this technique. In memory classes, they teach student to associate something they already know with something they want to remember. This works especially well with lists, groups of things, information that comes in a collection. Not so effective with complex ideas, concepts, or convoluted equations.
The key is that students will remember something they can relate to. So beginning with something familair is a great way to reinforce to points.

I try to bring real world experiences to every lecture I find that the students become more engaged and ask more questions
Hi Andrew:
Great. Real world, workplace stories, situations, examples, issues, etc. have an almost magical way of keeping students interested and attentive. It's a great way to reengage studentsif you feel they're becoming distracted, disinterested, or unfocused on the lesson, too.
