I use Youtube after some of our Clinic lectures to look through some lab skills before and after we go to the Lab. Not only do I pull up videos that are accurate but also ones that are problematic and as a class we discuss what is being done wrong and/or right. Our keyboarding course is done entirley on the computer with a software as well as learning how to work on electronic health records. In preparation for their final certifcation exam, the students access free online tests which provide instant scores and rationales on what they missed.
Hello all
It is impressive to see how today's technology helps in the learning process, there are many ways to incorporate technology in fact the current school systems often have websites where the class schedule, assessments, are forums to discuss issues of class, gets all information, notes, sylabus, tasks, software for training there, which certainly help a lot in practical classes, we can also use technology to search for and then group discussions.

Field trips to actually see the EMRs in reality, not just in theory. It makes the concept real by application. Also, student run and work a mock lab for 18 weeks of their 18 month program.
I have done the occasional phone in your answer survey, just to break up the class and have a little fun. I use powerpoints and have them create their own presentations to teach the class a particular subject.
George,
Do you receive a higher response rate (by using Facebook), than using the student portal or assigning the questions as homework?

I use power point presentation and then try to find resource or videos about that topic. This is also beneficial for clinical students
Being an online class, it's sometimes difficult to "show" new technology things while in class. Although there is a white board used to interaxt and I try to make it as interesting as possible by changing it up every day. I've also intentionally misspelled words to see if the students catch and sometimes will ask at the end of the week what was found. I also find websites for the students to look up and research.
Using PowerPoint Presentation and white boards during lectures and having the students come up and fill in the diagrams. I build games such as Jeopardy, Family Feud, and virtual surgical procedures on the WII for the particular lesson. There are so many different ways technology can be incorporated and make it fun while students are learning.
I utilize computer simulation programs that allow students to interact with the body system I am teaching about.
I intergrate technology into my course with field trips. The students enjoy going out into the field that they will be working in and seeing how it works up close.
I agree, by creating my own PowerPoints I can more clearly stay within the boundaries of my lesson plans.
I will use PowerPoint when I need to stimulate my visual learners. I will have my students work in groups using the internet to fine material that will enhance their presentations, this will help my kinesthetic learners. My audio learners can use the media using tutorials that address the criteria for their presentations.
We use an internet based education site that provides questions in a number of different areas within our field. The students must complete each module with a passing score to move on. It ia accessed anytime and anywhere, so students can work at the site from home (homework) or at school if time allows.
PowerPoint presentations seem to be the "accepted standard" in the classroom now. I ask that my students print them in advance of the class to be able to write their own notes in the borders of the paper as they follow along. I search the internet for relevant videos to supplement the standardized curriculum.
When we are in a discussion on different business topics and questions are asked about statistics or other information, I actually have some students look information up on their cell phones going to certain web sites (i.e. US Census, EEOC, etc.) and they really like to do this.
I sometimes post sample questions on a Facebook page that was created for this class. This is a site that all of my students know about and enjoy visiting.
I needed to show my LVN students how to do a BUBBL-HE assessment. UTube has a great assessment on a real person which was so much better than using a maniquin in the skills lab.
I try to integrate technology into courses in a variety of ways. Audio-visual equipment is a good first step. Showing documentary type material to the class helps the material come alive. I have also used the web as a resource. I can show students how to conduct research via the web. I have also used a designated "fact checker" in class. The fact checker is a student with a laptop who looks up facts during class discussions.
In my lecture type classes, I use technology quite a bit, since they are computer based content. We use technology for all of the assessments, as well as incorporating it into the learning process by the use of simulations to reinforce the content of the instruction segments. I also follow up the short lecture/discussion segments with short videos that give real world application to the information I am giving them. I have found that this type of delivery seems to get them more interested, and seems to stay with them.
I have the students use the laptops to access course forums and online content to keep them current on the social issues we discuss in class.
