Learning as you are actively doing it.
Learning is a complex process. It is also depends on the individual who is learning. Everybody has a preferred ways of learning. Somebody learn by listening, some from reading and some by doing or applying. Which methods give a permanent or long lasting learning is also different based on individuals. But still you need multiple ways of teaching. One only method will not complete the whole learning process. We need to lecture then demonstrate the process and then let the students do by themselves.Ultimately active learning is needed because student will have to do the same thing in the jobs what they learn in the class.
Hi Shah,
You have it! Students must be able to apply what they have learned! As an instructor we must do our due diligence to reach all types of learners, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.

I like to weave activities/skills previously learned throughout my courses. To help the students reduce 'flushing' of information/skills.
Hi Danielle,
This sounds like it is a great way to help students retain information. Our students must retain information in order to be successful in the real world.

We incorporate alot of hands on exercises and modules due to a large percentage of our student population have a hard time with just reading material , they need both reading and hands on to be successful
Hi Antonio,
Students enjoy hands-on activities, and they really retain the information through this way of learning. It is sad collegian level students are not very strong readers. We have to do what we can to ensure our students are able to perform.

yes this is a major improvement on the learning,we bring in the study guides and books if needed during the labs,so the students can see first hand what the book is trying to teach them.along with our lecture input.so much better this way.makes my job less stressful on trying to find new ways to reach different students,
This course has made me realize I need more active learning activities in the classroom. not just in the lab
Hi Sidney,
I love to lecture before applying concepts. Students tend to have a better understanding if they have lecture first and then perform or performing as you are teaching.

Hi Charles,
Active learning is the best in all areas! Students love it, and it is very effective!

I have found when I am teaching my class if I get the class to go back to lab and class every time I explain something to them so they can put there hands on the part and make it work. In the end I have more students understanding the lecture and every time we get up it works like a state change so ne students have time to day dream or sleep.
Hi Franz,
Students need to stay involved and put to practice what they have been taught. Most students really do learn best by doing.

I like the idea of mimicking after demonstration because the information is still fresh in the students minds. I often find that when some students return the next day and produce the previous day's demo , they are often baffled by their own notes taken the day before and experience some confusion about the desired result.
Hi Kimberly,
It is always more beneficial to demonstrate right after the lecture! Some students can not retain information for a long period of time.
