First class
The class I teach is the first class that new students are required to take. Since I am the first instructor the students will meet, I make sure all the students feel comfortable and welcome to the class. During the time of getting to know each other, I have each student introduce themselves. I walk to each students desk and welcome them individually.
When teaching new students entering a college classroom, it is most important to lay a solid foundation for them with their individual study skills.
Good study skills assist college students in learning how to be more efficient at studying.
I teach the first nursing class in the program curriculum. Students need a safe and supportive environment. I like to begin by having a brief check-in session with students. I also start each day by reviewing activities and participation expectations
Although many instructors do a great job of introducing themselves and the subject material to be taught, they fail to take the opportunity during the first class to get to know each student. If we are going to be successful at selling our concepts and ideas in the classroom, we must be able to connect with our students on a personal level.
Hi Karen,
The first impression is so important as we instructors know but yours is even more important due to the fact it is a first course for the students. You are right on with your planning and approach for making it an image maker for the students.
Gary
this is my second class but my first for the newbies and i'm scared i've been fumbling my words but i know it's just temporary i'm just worried that i'm not making the best impression
Hi Jamie,
It is ok to be nervous as you start a new class. Keep a sense of humor going and you will do fine. We all step on our tongues at times so just forge ahead with a smile on your face and your professionalism showing. This will go a long way with your students.
