Enjoy what you do

I have been teaching for 19 years, and I still enjoy meeting all the students, teaching them new concepts and techniques. I use all different types of methodologies, and always remember not every student is going to learn at the same pace. They are all individual people.

Like mirrors, people reflect what is in front of them (i.e. - the more people you greet with a smile, the more people smile back at you). If you enjoy teaching you will create a positive learning environment. If you don't enjoy what you do...DO SOMETHING ELSE!

I also enjoy teaching and it shows in the classroom.

I have been teaching at the college level for 20 years. Teaching has always been my passion. I try to instill in the students that success to me means getting up every morning and loving what you do for a living.

It is so rewarding to me that I can touch so many lives and make a difference. I look forward to meeting new students each session.

I believe that you have to love what you do as an educator or your students will not have a good experience. Involving the students can make for interesting questions and good feed back.

Hi Anthony,
Good to hear. This is so important for students to know and observe. Enthusiasm is catching so keep up your excitement about being a teacher.
Gary

Hi Kathleen,
I always enjoying hearing from instructors like yourself. Being excited about having a chance to impact a life, create a future and shape a career is what being a teacher is all about. Keep up the good work you are doing.
Gary

Hi Michelle,
I agree with you. If you don't demonstrate your excitement about being an instructor and your field it is for sure the students won't be excited.
Gary

Hi Anthony, I can relate to your statement as well, I have been teaching for 15 years and still
enjoy being with students, and being a motivator
and share their enthusiasm.

I once had to have my car towed after a fender bender. The tow truck driver saw my face as he was hooking my car to his truck -- he said to me don't worry while your car is on the street it is yours . When it is on my truck it becomes my car and I will take care of it as if it is my car, and I will keep it safe.
He made me feel so secure that my car would survive the trip.
I was so shocked that he demonstrated just how much he cared about his work.
I wanted to be just like him when I grew up. He loved his job just as much as I love mine.

Hi Pam,
What a great story. Thanks for sharing it with us. This is a perfect example of how we can be inspired in our own careers to be the best we can be.
Gary

Enjoying the art of teaching is very refreshing and knowing your course material when presenting is a great plus.

Hi Alnita,
Good points. This is what makes it worth while coming to class each time and sharing your content and expertise with your students.
Gary

I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT WITH YOUR STATEMENT. TO ADD ALSO THAT THEY ALL HAVE DIFFRENT LEARNING STYLES. IF YOU GENUWINELY LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING THE ORA THAT YOU SET FORTH WILL BE SEEN AND FELT, AND KEEPING IN MIND THE SIMPLE TEACHING TOOLS WILL HELP YOU TO BE A MORE EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTOR.

Hi Francis,
Well said and very important to our teaching success.
Gary

Being prepared is the best for success!

I definitely agree with your points! Even though this is my first year teaching, I am very impressed with the knowledge that many of the students have. I actually enjoy creating cross-exchange type topics that allow the students to provide passionate ideas amongst one another during class time. I also like to create group activities that teach them how to work as a TEAM which will show some reflection to working in real world situations. This has been a good tool in teaching them how to accept others views, and how to communicate in a group work environment.

I enjoy teaching as well. I enjoy learning from my students every term I teach. I am elated when a student comes back a couple of terms previous and let me know that they enjoyed my class and they are using the techniques learned in my class for their current class. That is the best feeling for an instructor.

I believe we have to enjoy what we do in order for the students to get the best from us. We will teach with an even greater sense of knowledge and comfort and also, the students will see that when we teach.

I often tell students that if they choose a career they enjoy, then they will never work another day in their life. In other words, it won't feel like work, it'll just be a natural event that carries them into retirement!
