I am new to teaching, so I am probably over doing my planning a bit, just to make sure I completely understand the lectured material. I try to be as interactive as possible.

Over preparation is fine at this stage in your teaching career. It is better to be over prepared than having 50 minutes of a class remaining with nothing to say or do. Also, I am sure you notice that your self confidence is much higher when you feel prepared for your class and ready to be the learning leader.

I am new also. I seem to find myself planning lecture and lab ideas over the weekend! I am always thinking of new ideas and ways to involve the class during lecture.

Remember to take a few minutes for yourself as you prepare for your classes. It is easy to spend an excessive amount of time preparing so try to narrow down your outline and activities and look for the fun parts related to presenting the content or doing the activities. Teaching is a lot of fun but does take a lot of effort if you are going to be the instructor of merit that you want to be. Keep up the good work and you will be at that level soon.
