check list

i have started using a first day check list it helps me remember to talk about this & that & a student can not say i never mentioned it before

Theformal use of a check list that is written and insight will be new for me but I agree that it will be a helpful resource to ensure that nothing is missed. I totally agree it is a valued added to the classroom experience

I write everything I want to cover on the white board and check it off when I have covered that.

Hi Derek,
Good strategy. That way you know what you have covered and won't leave anything out.

I will use a check list first day to make sure to cover all the bases. But the check list is always being updated and changed for the class in 3 weeks

daily check lists helps me keep tabs on what i have covered and what needs to be covered so I am able to go through things step by step

All of our classroom presentations are done on PowerPoint slides, so I made my own slides labled "Day One Introduction". I have one for each class that I teach. It has my check list items on the slide for the class to see and we cover them one by one. This way if I miss one, the class will always point it out. It also helps to keep their attention on the presentation. Another set of slides has my background and credentials. I have fancy effects on these slides to get the class laughing and settled on the first day. It seems to work very well.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for sharing your use of PP slides. You are making the slides work for you instead of the other way around. Many instructors do take this course of action and the media (PP in this case) drives them.

I am going to start a check list. It sounds like a really good thing to do. The school gives me one but I feel the need to add in some extra things that are important.
