Senior students help
In my program, new students are joining the class with every new module, and my "old" students are very helpful in involving new students in " the wheel of learning".
Hi Inna,
Good job of using your students as resources. By blending the new students in with your experienced students you are using another resource that is available to you.

I agree that using senior students to assist new students in the learning process is a good idea.Senior Peers can be a great asset to Instructor and new student. But my experiance has also been that some senior students are a bit apprehensive about mentoring new students. Perhaps they feel being used by the Instructor. It may be that one of the initial instructions to student is that as they grow, they need to "show" new students, this reinfroces what they have learned and as questions come up,as they are sharing their knowledge, then that creates a motivator to search out the answer.
Hi Cecilia,
You make a very good point about Senior Peer relationship with new students. I have found that you have to explain to them what their role is so they won't be apprehensive when they are working with the new students. By making it an honor position you can help them to understand their role more clearly. The Senior Peers are a valuable resource that can be used in the class as long as everyone understands their role. I have found that most of them really enjoy their tutoring and instruction role once they get comfortable with it.
