Frist Meeting Class
How should the students leave the class in their fist day of class?
Hi Denise,
I am assuming by your question you are talking about the feeling that they would have for the course. They should leave feeling like they understand the requirements, expectations and polices for the course. A feeling of understanding about how the course will operate and how they fit into the course. They see their instructor as a caring respective and competent leader of their learning for the duration of the course. If you can get them to this level in the first class meeting you will have achieved a lot. The use of introductions and icebreakers will really help to create this type of feeling.
Gary
With a clear understanding of the expectations of the course, feeling comfortable and confident they have a instructor who will meet there educational needs.
I am not sure that the students leave the class " The first day" knowing if I am the Instructor that will meet their needs. There are many technical task to complete in a 3 week period. However I do try to send them out on their first day knowing where they are headed. The confidence in me comes when I have helped them jump the second or third hurdle. I am not expecting to win them over on day one but I do want to establish trust.
Hi Duvall,
You make a very important and critical point in terms of earning the trust of students. If you can do it the first day like you mentioned then they are much more receptive to what is going to happen the next class meeting.
Gary
Students should leave feeling like they will be successful in the course.
