I teach computer based applications and use all the styles discussed. Therefore my students get hands on experience with the specific application I am teaching.
Hi Harinder,
Sounds like you have found a nice blend of teaching strategies that work for both your students and yourself. As you mention the key component is variety and activity. Q&A sessions can really get students involved and it sounds like you have refined this method to keep your students engaged.

Almost every lecture period, I use both long-lecture & mini-lecture techniques. Long lectures when introducing a new topic & mini-lecture when reviewing or recaping. It also depends on the intectual quality of a particular set of students. I also use live-boared , PP, and a lot of questioning. It keeps students attentive & focused. It works!
Almost during every lecture period, I use many techniques to deliver my message, including long lectures & mini-lectures. I prefer long lectures when introducing a new topic. It also depends on the intellectual quality of students in any given set. Usually, mini-lectures are handy when I'm reviewing or recapping as the students already have some ideas of what is being said or recaputured. Other techniques that I us are live-board method, PP, assigning tasks in the class right after the topic is finished. A lot of interaction by way of asking questions from the students help the class to be on their toes and kep them attentive. Believe me, it works!
