You must look at the needs of the students as well as the coarse content to find out what maywork in the classroom.
Hi Celina,
Not muddled at all. I understand where you are coming from completely.

I sometimes think that Hippa gets in the way with our "insight" of the "needs" of an individual...There seems to be a fine line of needs vs. wants in some cases. Also, I think that some tend to overuse the term special needs. Some use it as a crutch and others may overcome their needs.
I hope that my muddled thoughts came through alright...
Hi Catherine,
There are several pretest methods you can use. You can give your students a list of terms related to the field and see if they have any knowledge of the terms. This will give you a baseline of where your students are and were you need to start your instruction. You can have them to a quick writing assignment such as what are your career goals or what do you expect to get out of this course. I call these one minute papers. They have 60 seconds to write their goals or expectations. When I review their writing I get a picture of their writing abilities along with their abilities to work under time stress. All of this I consider as I develop my lessons for that class of students.
