Stepping out of the comfort zone.

I find it more egaging for the student to "step out of your comfort zone". getting out from behind the desk or podium will help you reach all students and in turn keep them focused during lecture.

It also helps to involve students where possible to keep them engaged

I like to step out of my comfort zone, but in little bits at a time. I want the student to enjoy the lecture but I also dont want to seem uncomfortable teaching the information or lose my train of thought.

Any suggestions about how to do this online?

Just getting out behind the desk to stretch and having your students stretch is a great way to get the blood flowing. It just refreshes everybody or reboots them.

Moving around and changing your location keeps students focused by giving them a different physical view. Steve

Hi Steve,
This is a good point about location within the classroom. By moving around the classroom you are showing the students that you "own" the classroom and this is important for students to mentally know this. This means that you may be anywhere in the classroom while sharing course content. This helps the students to see your instructional style in a different light.
